Healing the Society

“Healing the Society” is a voluntary social development initiative of Al ilm’s “Understanding Qur'an” study course. The Qur'an and Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) teach us to give back to society.

Prophet SAW said “What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the wrongs of the injured.”

With a verse of the Qur'an and/or a hadith as their guiding light, students and teachers of “Understanding Qur'an” designed, planned and executed various projects as group assignments, using their own resources and ingenuity.

Some of these projects are on going and some will be revived or new initiatives will be taken by students of this current session, inshaallah.

	Plastic Bags Reduction Campaign
	Karachi is among the many cities of the world that have a flourishing informal recycling system. We recycle everything – from vegetable peelings to paper, plastic and glass. *Everything but plastic bags!* Supported by NGOs - WWF – The World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan, URC – Urban Resource Centre & Shehri – Citizens for a Better Environment, this campaign is encouraging people to reduce their use of plastic bags, to reuse what they have and is actively exploring sustainable recycling options. 	The Silent Scream – anti-abortion campaign
	As responsible citizens of society it is our duty to spread awareness about the physical, psychological & reproductive health of women and violent assault against helpless human beings. This campaign analyzed the abortion issue from a medical, moral and ethical viewpoint. The conclusions drawn are based on evidence rather than rhetoric.
