About Us

Al ilm is a non-government, non-profit, non-political & non-sectarian Islamic Educational Society.  We believe that Islam is a way of life that offers tangible solutions to real life issues.  It is accessible for all – transcending age, gender, socio-economic backgrounds and geographical boundaries.  The only real hindrance in reaching this path is ignorance.  Hence:

Our Mission:
Education through Qur'an and Sunnah

Our Vision:
A peaceful, just and tolerant society based on true Islamic principles and practices.

We have been conducting a comprehensive “Understanding Qur'an” study course for women in Defence Housing Authority, Karachi, Pakistan since 2004.  The course of study began as an informal dars by Huma Najmul Hassan back in 1997.

Unexpected demand for a structured study programme & a group of willing volunteers were key factors that filled a need of the hour and our current platform evolved.

We offer Islamic courses that enable people to understand the basic tenets of Islam using modern technology and teaching aids.  We promote the strong social fabric of Islam by initiating and encouraging interaction among cross sections of society.  We disseminate the message of The Qur'an and Sunnah through audio cassettes, CDs, pamphlets and publications.

Why Al-Ilm ?

Are those who know equal to those who know not? It is only men of understanding who will remember {Surah Az Zumar 39 :Verse 9}

Islam is the path of "knowledge." It is a religion that invites its followers to exercise their intellect and make use of their knowledge to attain the ultimate truth (haqq).

The term used for knowledge in Arabic is ilm, which has a much wider connotation than its synonyms in English and other Western languages. 'Knowledge' falls short of expressing all the aspects of ilm. Knowledge in the Western world means information about something, divine or corporeal, while ilm is an all-embracing term covering theory, action and education.

We chose the name Al ilm as an appropriate title for working with the time-tested methodology of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in spreading the revealed knowledge of the Divine Teacher and Creator.

And He taught Adam all the names (of everything), then He showed them to the angels and said, "Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful." They (angels) said: "Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us. Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise." {Surah Al Baqarah2: Verse 31}
